Life doesn't stop being hard just because you understand what's happening. Healing doesn't mean the chaos disappears. It means you get better at finding stillness while it's happening. There are still court papers, still emails that spike your heart rate, still moments when your child has a meltdown and you can feel your nervous system start to overload.
This is the transcript for Episode 5.
These reactions in your body, are really your body doing exactly what it was trained to do: scan for danger. The goal is not to shut that down. It's to give it better information. When my body tells me we're not safe, I've learned to pause. Sometimes I'll say out loud, "we're okay right now. We're not in the past. We're not in the future. We're here in the present."
Saying it out loud helps my body catch up to my mind
That's what stillness looks like for me. It's not meditating on a mountain top. It's being able to breathe through an email without shaking. Stillness is not silence. It's the few seconds of space between the trigger and the reaction. It's what gives you back your power.
"If you're a mother parenting through trauma, you don't need to be calm all the time"
You just need to keep practicing those small pauses, the ones that remind your brain that today is not yesterday. And that's where healing hides, in small, repetitive moments that look ordinary, but actually rewire everything.
If you're here, on the intrawebs looking for this information, you're doing something right. You may be doing it slow, and slow is still progress. This is Light in the Battle. Thank you for being here with me.
